First Pierheads Outing for Staging Kings Friday (7/24) AM

So much to get you all caught up from, from a fishing standpoint over the last 2 weeks... The week of the Ludington Offshore Classic is always hectic and fun, and this year the hours and days leading up to it were extremely busy getting the new Sorry Kids ready for battle!

But, since this is my blog and I am the author, I am not going to talk about any of that because Tournament fishing is stressful and I want this blog to be about more easy going, no pressure type fishing adventures

Early last week there was forecasted a pretty significant North Blow on Wednesday (7/22) and it was going to be more than enough to flip the water and make it worth fishing out front. The weather man was correct, and by Wednesday night and overnight Thursday morning, the Ludington Weather buoy located in the 59s in about 80 foot of water showed 42 degree water on top and Temperatures in the upper 30s about 20 foot down. The result was two fold. On one hand it was enough to ruin a good time at the beach and on the other hand it was enough to push bait and fish in to the shallows

Austin had to work until Thursday night at 6:00 but the plans were made for a 4:30 departure from the Loomis Boat Launch on Friday morning

We left the dock, navigated around the maze of buoys and ropes left from the ongoing dredging operation in between the lighthouses, and ran about a Mile North and settled in 40 Foot of water. On my side I had three long lines. a 60' Weighted Steel, a 100' Copper, and a 150' Copper. I ran a pair of green slices on the rigger down 33 feet and a high wire diver with an 8" Black Tuxedo/Dreamweaver Isotope Meat Rig. The 60' Weighted Steel had a Captains Choice Double glow, the 100 had a little silver horde moldy wonderbread plug, and the 150 had a rasberry carbon spoon.

Austin had the ugliest glow spoon known to man kind on his 3 color, a little gray ghost plug on his 5 color, a dreamweaver 4" glow wonderbread plug on his wire diver and a pair of ss sodas on his rigger

We had everything set with no bites. By this time we were right in front of the Harbor the water temp was 60 degrees on top. It had warmed up a bit. I was slightly concerned...

We made it a little South of the Harbor and finally Austin's 5 color fired with a 6 Pound King. Shortly thereafter my 150 took a nice swipe but he was gone before I could grab the rod

We flipped back North and about a half mile North of the Pierheads, my 60 copper went with a nice Adult King. We grabbed that one and my high wire got violated with the Isotope Meat rig. I had just gotten that fish out of the rod holder when my rigger with the green slices took a bite, and Austin's diver with the plug went as well. we got 3 of those 4 and steadily picked away the rest of the morning before pulling lines at 8:20 with 14 in the box

Bites were as follows:

3 color ugly looking moonshine spoon-3X

What I learned today

Austin Tyndall needs to chill sometimes. Leaving during a hot bite one fish short of your 3 man limit is not cool..., even if you have a really important commitment
Other living fish and organisms besides humans can be cripples. Please refer to the handicapped steelhead pictured below
When all things are considered, it's best to trust your gut and trust your instinct. If it seems like fish should be in an area based on prior experience, they probably will be. It rarely ever pays off to chase somebody else's program
Larry the fish cleaning station is cool and deserves some accolades. The guy is fun to talk to and has a lot of life experience that will make you laugh while simultaneously inspiring you to pray for the Guy...
