The result is a healthy, world-class fishery that draws anglers from across the Midwest in search of powerful King salmon, acrobatic steelhead, lake trout, and brown trout.

Why Ludington?

As a result of a record amount of 30 lb. plus kings being caught in 2019, Logan Wessendorf founded the Big King Bonanza in 2021 with a simple goal: create a fun, competitive salmon event that celebrates the fishing culture of Ludington. A lifelong fisherman, Logan can often be found chasing anything that swims, from springtime suckers in the rivers to powerful king salmon on Lake Michigan. If there’s a bite happening somewhere, chances are Logan already knows about it.

Logan lives right on Ludington Ave and stays closely connected to the local fishing community. His day job is with the well-known Dreamweaver Lure Company, another Ludington based staple in the salmon fishing world. Between his work in the industry and time on the water, Logan always seems to have a pulse on what’s happening on the lake. Case in point, Logan starts the Big King Bonanza and Ludington produces a 47.86 lb. state record king the very first year!

The Big King Bonanza is a volunteer effort for Logan, driven purely by his love of the sport and the people who make Ludington such a special fishing town. He brings a big heart, a lot of enthusiasm, and a deep passion for salmon fishing to everything he does.
